Lina Scheynius for Numéro
Just when I thought Lina Scheynius couldn't top her already flawless photographs, she goes and exceeds my expectations. Her new spread for Numéro Korea featuring Hanne Gaby Odiele doesn't feel like your average fashion photography editorial. With the charm of something you'd see in Lula magazine, every photo is ethereal and awe-inspiring. You forget Hanne is modeling thousand dollar Louis Vuitton all together and instead are encapsulated by Lina's dreamy and dainty world.

chloe and harmony
Chloe Sevigny with Harmony Korine, photo by Juergen Teller. Harmony wrote Kids and directed Mr. Lonely, which are both really great movies you should watch.

so THAT's how they did it
Ever seen 1920s/30s photos of women with those short, wavy, boyish bobs?
Ever wonder how they achieved the style? Well I have. The waves do not appear natural but rather look like series of indented big crimps (remember crimpers?! yeah, i had one.) An unrelated photo of Melissa Joan Hart in 1997 to jog your memory:
Turns out it wasn't uncommon for women to get 'permanent waves.' And interestingly enough they used giant electrical machines (not unlike in appearance to those electrocuting contraptions seen in old horror flicks, mind you) to do so.
A 6-year-old in 1928 getting a permanent wave. Insaaane.
A woman at the hairdresser's in 1921.
Models showing off their permanent waves in the late 1920s.
And if they do work, then send them my way. K, Thanks.

mismatched
Mismatched frames on walls make me so happy. Mixing paintings, photographs, sketches, notes, postcards and little random odds and ends seems like such a better alternative than to only framing one type of art. I find that 10 paintings in a room or 10 photos together just looks a bit dull or contrived. These photos from theselby are anything but.
Gahd, I can't wait till I have my own apartment.
